Cumbria Police have told the public to be vigilant following the use of counterfeit notes in the county. This follows an incident in Penrith where a man tried to purchase low value items from a retailer.
Police would like to remind retailers in Cumbria to be extremely vigilant for these circumstances and ensure that notes are legitimate before carrying out a transaction.
Anyone who suspects the use of fake money is asked to call 101.

Money Point does not recommend that business owners rely solely on counterfeit pens or ultraviolet lights as a means of protecting their business from counterfeit banknotes, as these devices can be easily fooled by good quality counterfeits.
